Helena Gordon, an attractive 28 year old woman with long, auburn hair, was eating a turkey sub in the office break room with her friend Kyra Lane, and equally attractive, 28 year old woman with shoulder length, blonde hair.

“Are you doing anything for Halloween?” Helena asked her friend who was nursing a cup of tea.

“Not really. I’m just going to stay home and pass out candy.” Kyra replied, taking a sip of tea.

“What about the office Halloween party? You’re going to that, right?”

“I hadn’t really planned on going.”
Kyra was really quiet and reserved girl and Helena was determined to get her friend out of her shell.

“Oh come on, Kyra. You have to go. It will be fun. There’s going to be music, games, and don’t forget the costume contest. This year it’s to day passes to the Starlight Spa, the most luxurious spa in the city.”

“Did someone say spa?”

Helena and Krya turned towards the door and saw a woman with short, black hair entering the room. “Carol.” Helena growled. Carol Kyle was the office vixen who thought highly of herself and used to body and feminine wilds to get her way. She and Helena have been at each other’s throats ever since Helena accidently spilled coffee on Carol’s blouse.

“Helen. Carly.” Carol greeted the pair.

Helena rolled her eyes. One of the ways Carol annoyed her was by purposely mispronounce hers and Kyra’s name. She didn’t care that Carol was picking on her but what really bugged her was when Carol picked on Kyra, presumably because Kyra was her friend.

“What do you want?” Helena asked nastily.

“I couldn’t help but overhearing that you two are talking about the prize for this year’s costume contest. You two aren’t thinking about entering the contest now, are you?

“Not that it’s any of your business but yeah. We’re thinking about entering the costume contest.”

“I might as well save you the trouble of entering the contest because I’m going to win this year.”

“What makes you so sure that you’re going to win?”

“I have a costume that will knock out the rest of the competition.” Carol stated confidently.

“Well we have a pretty awesome costumes and I bet they’re a hundred times better than yours.” Helena retorted.

Carol laughed out loud. “I’ll admit that you two are cute but you really think you can compete with all of this?” She asked waving her hands down her hourglass body.

“I bet we can!”

Carol scoffed. “Fine. See you at the party then.” She walked out of the break room.

Helena growled angrily as she sat down back in her seat.

“Why must you always fight with her?” Kyra asked

“Because she’s asking for it.”

“But why did you have to drag me into this? I’m not even going to the party.”

“She called us out. We have to go.”

“No. We don’t.” Kyra got up and exited the room.

Helena went after her friend. “Come on, Kyra. Aren’t you tired of Carol picking on us?”

“The best way to deal with bullies is to ignore them.”

“No. You stand up to them. Think of the look of Carol’s face when we win.”

Kyra reached her cubicle and sat down. “I really don’t care.”

“Okay. Forget about Carol. Think about the prize. When was the last time you ever been to a spa?”

“It has been a while and the Starlight Spa is the most luxurious spa in the city.”

“Exactly. If we both enter we will be doubling our chances at winning.”

Kyra bit her lip nervously. “I don’t know. I don’t even have a costume.”

A big grin appeared on Helena’s face. “Leave that to me.”

Helena arrived at the office Halloween party as the New 52 Batgirl and Kyra arrived as Supergirl. “Wow. They really went all out this year.” Helena commented looking excitedly around the room.

The office had changed from a brightly lit workplace to a dreary graveyard. Luminescent ghost hanging from the ceiling and pumpkin lanterns sitting at the base of tombstones scattered around the office provided dim lighting. Pin up bats and flying witch banners were pinned to walls and skeletons dressed in office attire were sitting in the desk chairs. There was a DJ dressed as a zombie DJ had setup a small stage and was playing music. Then there was the food. A catering service had set up a buffet table that provided guest with Halloween delectables such as; zombie finger food, peeled flesh lasagna, buffalo bat wings, and blood punch.

“Aren’t you glad you came?” Helena asked.

“This does seem like fun.” Kyra replied bobbing her head to the music.

“Hey look. There’s Catherine in a butterfly costume. And there’s Dave and Cass dressed up as a pair of robbers. They’re such a cute couple. And there’s…” Helena’s voice suddenly dropped to a low growl. “Carol.” Carol was dressed as Catwoman in a skin tight, black body suit with the zipper pulled down exposing just enough of her breasts to be borderline inappropriate. “Wow. She looks good.”

“It’s a bit much if you ask me.” Kyra commented.

“Quick! Pull up your skirt.”

“Eeek!” Kyra jumped as Helena pulled up her skirt revealing more of her legs.
“What are you doing?”

“Trying to get you to show more of your legs. We need every advantage we can get.”

“Stop. You’re making me uncomfortable.”

Helena continued pulling up Kyra’s skirt. “Just a little more.”

“I said stop!” Kyra slapped Helena’s hand away and readjusted her skirt. Helena’s was stunned by her timid friend’s reaction. “I’m going home.” She then stormed out of the office.

Kyra was halfway down the hall when Helena came running up behind her. “Where are you going, Kyra?”

“I said I’m going home.”

“But we have to win the contest. We have to beat Carol.”

Kyra turned on Helena. “Did you see how Carol was dressed? Showing off so much of her breast? If that what it takes to win, I want no part of it. If beating her is so important to you, you can do it by yourself. I will not stoop to her level. Good night!”

Kyra continued towards the elevator when Helena grabbed her hand. “Kyra. Wait. You’re right. I went a little crazy back there.” Kyra frowned at Helena. “Okay. Completely crazy. I wanted to beat Carol so badly that I didn’t see how inappropriate I was being. I’m sorry for pulling up your skirt like that. Screw the contest. I rather have you as a friend than two spa passes and have no one to share them with. What do you say? Still friends?” Helena opened her arms hopefully.

Kyra was reluctant at first but then she grinned and her friend. “Friends.”

“Do you still want to go to the party?”

“What about Carol?”

“Screw, Carol.” Helena declared. “Tonight is about us having fun.” Both Batgirl and Supergirl went back to the party, hand in hand.

Helena and Kyra were drinking punch and talking to a pair of ninjas. One had an eagle on her chest, the other a hawk. They were chatting about attending a wedding when Carol decided to join the conversation. “Well if it isn’t Ratgirl and Superbrat.”

“What do you want, Carol?” Helena asked sounding rather annoyed.

“I was coming over to see if you two have signed up for the costume contest yet.”

“We’re not entering.”

Carol laughed loudly. “I can’t say that I’m that surprised. I knew you two would chicken out. Did you see my costume and suddenly decided that you had no chance of winning?”

Helena crushed her plastic cup spilling punch all over the floor and her hand. “You know what, Carol?” She lashed out.

“What?” Carol demanded staring Helena down.

Kyra noticed that Helena’s hands were shaking but then they stopped and fell to her side. “Nothing.” Helena admitted backing down in defeat.

“That’s what I thought.” Carol smirked. “I don’t you go home and play with your little bat friends.” She added shooing Helena away.

Helena turned away her fist still clenched around her cup, her teeth grinding in frustration.

“You know what, Carol? That costume makes you look like a skank.” Kyra interjected rather loudly. The music suddenly stopped and Kyra could feel everyone’s eyes on her.

Carol was completely stunned just like everyone else in the room. “What did you call me?”

“You heard me. You think you’re so hot? Well you’re not and I’m going to prove it.” Kyra suddenly wrapped her arm around Helena. “We’re going to enter the costume contest and beat you!” The crowd went wooooooo.

Carol’s eyes flared with rage but she managed to keep her composure. “Alright.” She said her voice trembling with suppressed rage. “May the best man win.” She walked off and the party resumed.

Kyra suddenly started laughing and jumping for joy. “Did you see that? I stood up to Carol.” She exclaimed excitedly. “You were right. It’s so much better to stand up to bullies.”

“Yeah.” Helena nodded absent-mindedly, staring at Kyra in disbelief.

“Come on. We have to sign up for the contest.” Kyra grabbed Helena by the hand and held her to the sign up sheet.

“I hope everyone is having a good time.” The DJ announced and the crowd cheered back. “Alright. The boss man wanted me to let you know that the costume contest is in thirty minutes. Until then let’s keep dancing.” He resumed playing music.

Helena was standing by herself and staring at the office entrance. Kyra had gone to the bathroom nearly ten minutes ago and had yet to return.

“Looking for your little friend?” Carol asked walking up to Helena.

“Go away, Carol.”

She didn’t. “I never knew she had so fire in her. I’ll admit it caught me off guard.” Helena grunted. “One might think that Kyra’s new attitude might make her a bit cocky.”

This time Helena acknowledged Carol. “What are you talking about?”

“I was returning from the bathroom when I saw someone dressed as Supergirl entering the supply closet with someone.”

“Kyra’s not that kind of girl.” Helena snapped.

Carol gave her an unnerving grin. “I’m just telling you what I saw. You know it is. Some people tend to get rowdy at parties like these.” She added slyly before walking away.

Helena dismissed Carol but Carol’s words were stuck in her mind. Kyra had been gone for a while and there had been a few indiscretions in the past. “Damn it.” She hated that she was entertaining the thought of Kyra making out with one of their coworkers. Carol may be the queen bitch but there were also a couple of creeps in the office who might take advantage of sweet Kyra, especially when they can hide behind a mask. Helena had to make sure that didn’t happen.

She made her way down the hall to the supply closet and stopped in front of the door. She pressed her ear up against the door but didn’t hear anything coming from the inside. “Kyra?” She gently knocked on the door. She heard a faint, muffled sound coming from inside the room. “Kyra?” This time the sound was a lot louder. Someone was definitely inside. “Kyra!” Helena burst through the door. “Oh my God! Kyra!”

The light from the hallway revealed Kyra lying on the ground, bound and gagged. Brown, packing tape was wrapped around her arms, wrists, legs, ankles, and a layer of tape was wrapped over her mouth. Kyra’s tear filled eyes begged her friend to come over and free her.

Helena rushed over the Kyra and began pulling at the tape. “Hold on, Kyra. I’ll get you out in a sec.”

“Lmmpk mmpht bmmhpnd ymmph!” Kyra shouted incoherently into her gag.

Before Helena could figure out Kyra was saying, someone came up from behind her and started wrapping tape over arms, pinning them to her side. “What the hell?” She cursed as her attacker forced her onto her stomach and started taping her hands behind her back. “Get the hell of me!” Helena thrashed as hard as she could but her attacker climbed onto her back and wrapped tape around her legs and ankles. “Help! Helmmph!” She screamed as tape was being wrapped around her head. When her attacker finally got off her back, Helena twisted her body and saw the shadowy outline of a woman with cat ears looming over her. “Cmmphl!”

“Not so super now, huh?” Carol laughed triumphantly, tossing a roll of packing tape on the ground. She bent down next to Helena and stroked her cheek. “You look so helpless tape up like this.” Helena pulled away and shouted vulgarities that her gag luckily drowned out. Carol laughed even more. “You know I was planning on beating you two in the costume contest but I figured this would be more humiliating. The two of you trapped in here with no hope of anyone finding you until Monday. People would think this was some kind of Halloween prank.” She stood up. “No one calls me a skank and gets away with it.” She aimed a kick at Kyra's shins but Kyra quickly pulled her legs away, cowering in fear of her tormentor. “Well bye girls. See you on Monday.” Carol slowly closed the door plunging her captives into darkness.

“Cmmmppphl!” Helena screamed.

Helena angrily twisted and turned on the ground as she wrestled with the tape the bind her but they wouldn’t give. She finally tired herself out and laid quietly on the floor. As she laid there on the ground she could hear Kyra quietly sobbing next to her. Anger started to swell in her heart. Helena never hated Carol as much as she did now. No one makes her friends cry and gets away with it. Reinvigorated by her rage Helena sat up and started thinking of a plan to get free.

The supply closet was full of stuff that could help her get free but they wouldn’t do her any good if she couldn’t find them. She needed to first turn on the lights. She remembered that the light switch was right next to the door which was directly in front of her if she remembered correctly. She scooted across the floor until she came into contact with wall. She then pressed her back up against the wall and lifted herself of the ground. As she lifted herself off the ground, she felt the light switch poking her in the back and rubbed against it until it flipped it on.

When the lights came up Kyra lifted her head off the ground and watched hopefully at what Helena was doing.

Helena bunny hopped over to the supply cabinet, grabbed the handle, hopped forward until the cabinet was opened, and hopped back around to look inside. On the middle shelf, resting on a supply tray was a pair of scissors. Helena grabbed the scissors, bunny hopped over to Kyra and knelt down next to her. She pointed the scissors at the tape around Kyra’s wrist and Kyra nodded her head in acknowledgment.

The two women positioned themselves back to back and Helena carefully cut the tape around her friend’s wrists. Once her wrists were free, Kyra took the scissors and cut the tape around Helena’s wrist and soon the two, costumed heroines freed themselves.

Helena removed her Batgirl cowl and wiped away the sweat on her forehead. “That was a workout.” She joked light heartedly. “Are you okay?”

“Yeah. I knew Carol was mean but to do this.”

“I don’t know about you but I want some payback.”

“It’s time we pulled our own Halloween prank.” Kyra declared.

Helena looked excitedly at Kyra. “I don’t know if it’s the costume or not but I’m liking the new you.”

“Well we are superheroes. It’s our job to catch bad guys.”

Helena laughed in agreement and put back on her Batgirl mask.

Carol was talking to a man dressed as the phantom of the opera. “This is an amazing party, sir.”

“It sure is, sir.” Kyra said walking up next to Carol. “Don’t you agree, Helena?”

“It sure is.” Helena agreed appearing on Carol’s other side. “I really enjoyed the Halloween themed food.”

Carol was shocked to see both women. “How did you two get free?”

Helena grabbed Carol’s arm. “That’s for us to know and for you to never find out. Excuses us, sir, but we have something to discuss with Carol.”

Kyra grabbed Carol’s other arm. “Please enjoy the rest of the party and we’re looking forward to the costume contest.” The girls started leading Carol out of the party.

Carol started to panic. “What are you two doing? Let me gmmph” Helena slapped a piece of tape over Carol’s mouth.

“Relax. There’s just something in the supply closet we like to show you.” Helena said deviously.

Carol tried break free from her captors’ grasp but Helena and Kyra held on tight. Everyone in the party was too busy talking or dancing to see the trio leaving the party.

“I think we went a little overboard with the tape.” Kyra said.

“I don’t.” Helena disagreed with an evil grin on her face.

“Mmmmmpphhh!” Carol screamed into her gag. Helena and Kyra had mummified her body with packing tape and she was wiggling helplessly on the floor

“Looks like me and Kyra are going to win those spa passes. If it’s any consolation, it may no be a seaweed wrap but I hear packing tape wrap is just a good. See you on Monday.” Helena and Kyra exited the room while Carol cursed their names.

“We’re not going to really leave her there over the weekend, are we?” Kyra asked.

Helena just shrugged. “We have to go. The contest is about to start.”

“Well that was a bit of a bummer.” Helena said sitting down in a chair pulling off her cowl.

Kyra sat down next to Helena and handed her a cup of punch. “Well at least we lost to Linda.”

Helena nodded in agreement. “She is a gorgeous Wonder Woman.”

The room suddenly burst into laughter. The girls turned their heads in the direction of the laughter and saw Carol, still mummified, hopping into the room.

“Looks like some caught Catwoman.” Someone shouted and the crowd laughed while Carol was looking desperately for someone to set her free. Helena and Kyra tapped their cups together and watched as people slowly unwrapped Carol. “Damn this is a lot of tape.”
